F Street has acquired the historic Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center at 790 N. Van Buren St. and will complete its conversion into The Scot, 22 luxury apartments in downtown Milwaukee.
F Street today announced it has acquired 790 N. Van Buren St., the former Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center, and will complete the building's redevelopment into The Scot, 22 luxury apartments with 20 underground parking stalls.
Designed by Edward Townsend Mix and built in 1889 as a church, the limestone landmark on Cathedral Square later became home to the Scottish Rite and has stood vacant since 2017. A conversion to apartments began in 2022 but stalled before completion. F Street purchased the property out of foreclosure and has engaged Marenzo Construction, with construction financing from Landmark Credit Union, to finish the work.
// The residences
The residences are among the largest apartments in downtown Milwaukee, ranging from roughly 855 to 4,400 square feet, with no two layouts alike. Several keep original features of the building, including a cathedral ceiling, exposed trusses, circular great rooms and the former stage. Amenities include a golf simulator, fitness center, saunas and a community room.

// What's next
Construction resumes this fall. Pre-leasing is expected to begin in spring 2027, with completion targeted for fall 2027. The building will be managed by F Street's in-house team.
